A member of several independent bands that originated in Warsaw, Zemler has experimented with different music genres: improvisational music (Horny Trees, SzaZaZe, Kapacitron, Piętnastka), contemporary music (Arturas Bumsteinas, Zdzisław Piernik, Tadeusz Wielecki), world music (Ritmodelia, Calle Sol) and ambitious pop (The Saint Box, Incarnations, Frozen Bird, Babadag, Neurasja, Natu). Determined to pursue his own way, he created his own, original sound backed by unique sensitivity, ingenuity and exceptional technique. Lado ABC released an album (Moped) of one of his concerts.

26 | Sat | MIT Senior Lecturer in Theater Arts Anna Kohler in collaboration with Bozkurt Karasu, video / sound technical director in a reading of Jean Cocteau’s The Human Voice, a monologue set in Paris, where a middle-aged woman is on a phone call with her lover of the last five years. He is to marry another woman the next day, which causes her to despair. The monologue traces the woman’s mental breakdown.  7:30pm, Killian Hall.  Free.

 

26 | Sat | Mark Harvey and the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra. New works for jazz orchestra including an Elegy for the victims of the Marathon bombing and SpaceWays, a centennial tribute to Sun Ra, as well as a performance of Harvey’s No Walls, the official song of Jazz Week 2014.  This concert celebrates Jazz Week in Boston and Jazz Appreciation Month in America. 8pm, Kresge Auditorium.  Free.
